Pan African Monitoring and Evaluation Conference

Date: 27 – 31 July 2009
Venue: Premier Hotel, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa

The leaders of Africa continue to grapple with service delivery and are looking for ways to improve their capabilities and help them to achieve tangible and sustainable results.

“Now, more than ever, governments are being held accountable to their constituents for their expenditure,” explains Hennie Oosthuizen, CEO of the African Information Institute. “It is prudent for Africa’s leaders to embrace monitoring and evaluation in order for them to accurately assess the quality and impact of their work against their strategic plan.”

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a public management tool used to improve the way that government and other organizations achieve results. South African President, Jacob Zuma, has prioritised M&E through the establishment of an evaluation, monitoring and planning commission within the presidency, as well as in all government departments from national down to local level.

The Pan African Monitoring and Evaluation Conference sees M&E practitioners gathering from Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, Nigeria and South Africa to name but a few of the countries represented at the event. This conference is the first of its kind and is presented by the African Information Institute in association with SAS, the thought leader in M&E. It offers an outcomes based and case study driven programme that will address, deliver and improve public sector performance.

At the Pan African Monitoring and Evaluation Conference stakeholders will discuss how to develop successful M&E best practice across the continent. “At this event software solutions will be presented by SAS” says Oosthuizen. “SAS is a technology pioneer which has established itself as an M&E thought leader and SAS’s solutions will enable M&E across the continent.”

  1. Sir / Madam

This is an excellent opportunity for all practitioners of monitoring and evaluation in different sectors and fields. I am working with CRY – Child Rights and You, a non-governmental organization working across 18 states of India to support more than 200 initiatives that work to touch the lives of nearly 7 lack children to ensure child rights for all. We follow a detailed and elaborate monitoring and evaluation process that is participatory in nature, ensures engagement of both CRY and partner team members and also ensures collection of adequate data from the grassroot level to enable appropriate reflection of the work being undertaken by the partners to fulfill the overall objective of ensuring child rights for all.

In the context of the Pan African Monitoring and Evaluation Conference being held at Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa from 27 – 31 July 09, we would like to understand whether there is any scope of our interface with this body with a view to enable exchange of knowledge on monitoring and evaluation of public welfare programmes and child development initiatives at a cross continent level.

    Thanking you

    Sincerely
    Subhrajit Sinha
Sr Manager – Planning & Development Support
