Vancouver Outcome Mapping Training Workshop – September 21-24

Tweet [1]

Date: September 21-24
Venue: Vancouver

Outcome Mapping is a practical, flexible and participatory approach to planning, monitoring and evaluation. First introduced by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in 2000, Outcome Mapping (OM) has been used in projects, programs and organizations around the world. A growing body of donor agencies, NGOs and monitoring and evaluation professionals are adopting OM because it helps them address complexity issues that other, more traditional methods do not consider.

An integrated system of planning, monitoring and evaluation (PM&E), Outcome Mapping:
• Clarifies intended interventions and desired outcomes
• Assesses contributions to social change
• Brings partners and stakeholders into PM&E processes
• Fosters social as well as organizational learning
• Strengthens partnerships and alliances
• Integrates M&E into projects or programs from the planning stage
• Balances M&E for accountability with M&E for learning
• Provides tools and vocabulary for understanding the complexity of social change

At the end of three days of training + one day of consultation and discussion, participants will be able to:
• Understand and convey the core concepts and principles of OM
• Begin to apply OM in their organizations and projects
• Combine OM with existing M&E methods
• Join the international community of OM users

The course methodology will embody the participatory values that are at the core of OM, combining theory with group discussion, individual reflection, small group practice and case studies. Course materials include a training manual, CD-ROM containing OM information in three languages (English, French and Spanish), and the book Outcome Mapping: Building Learning and Reflection in to Development Programs by S. Earl, F. Carden and T. Smutylo.
